OD: Hi, my name is Olivia from your ‘Afternoon with Olivia’ hosted on weekdays from two to four. I had the pleasure of interviewing Benny Reed from Skegss on February 18, ahead of their upcoming festival appearance in Deniliquin. This is how it went.

OD: I have Ben Reed, vocalist, guitarist and bassist extraordinaire from one of Australia’s favourite bands. That’s right. Skegss welcome Benny to THE END FM.
Benny Reed: Cheers, thanks for having me.
OD: So what are you most excited about for your visit to the outback next month?
BR: Probably just being able to go back to Deni. Because it is where I was born. When we got the festival offer, I said yes straightaway. And then on the day that it sells is my birthday so I was kind of tripping about that, it’s a crazy coincidence. SO pretty keen to go back to Deni.
OD: So what can we expect to hear from your performance at Play on The Plains?
BR: I dunno. Just all our songs. I guess because we’re pretty excited to come and um play, and hopefully give just pretty good energy. We’ll have a good time.
OD: Looking back what has been your best stage moment with the band?
BR: Each time like you play your biggest shows. Definitely always a bit of a crazy side that you’re not used to. So you are pretty high off the adrenaline or something, something like that, where you get a bit overwhelmed by it all and it’s like Woah and it goes so quick, you are like Damn. But I feel like Deni is going to be the best one.
OD: What advice would you give to the region’s budding artists wanting to explore the music scene professionally?
BR: Definitely just have a crack. But it’s definitely uncharted territory for everyone individually because your life, wherever you live and your family life. And sometimes you are a bit unsure about kind of like going into the music world and stuff. But I think if you like playing original music, never think you are too crazy, kind of embrace your, whatever it is you think of, like your originality and because it kind of makes it easier to maintain if it does you know, progress. If you are just sort of being yourself and definitely just have a crack for a while. And it is kind of easy going somewhere, maybe for a bit of a time like that has a bit of a music scene, so you can try and meet other people if you’re struggling. But we found just playing lots of shows all the time, like we all work heaps of different jobs almost the whole time, and still sometimes do. But just like booked as many tours as we could, even if you don’t make coin or anything, you just do as many shows as you can. So you can live anyway, you just gotta keep just trying to build you a little kitty up and playing heaps for shows and enjoying that side of it, just the fact that you can just book a run around and even if you made a couple hundred bucks, just put that back in to the petrol for the next little tour. That is just like the funniest part at that time I reckon.
OD: Thank you for joining us. That was Ben Reed from Skegss joining Olivia right here at THE END FM
BR: Thank you, cheers, see you later.
