OD: Hey It’s Olivia from your ‘Afternoon with Olivia’, which you can catch from 2 till 4, most weekdays. I was super excited to catch up with the stunning singer songwriter Grace Pitts, who is better known as GRAACE, on Feb 25. I think it was just an amazing chance to celebrate and foster a love of music with a leading female artist. Here is that interview now.

OD: I have Australian singer songwriter from Sydney best known for her stunning vocals, Grace is joining me right here at THE END FM. I am your host Olivia. Welcome, Grace.
Grace Pitts: Thank you so much.
OD: So I see you’ve been hitting up a few shows and music festivals now that we are out of lockdown. How’s that been?
GP: It feels pretty surreal to be completely honest. It feels like a long time in the making, but it feels pretty incredible.
OD: That’s absolutely incredible. So what is your favourite part of performing, especially at events such as Play on The Plains?
GP: Oh, I mean, people singing, like, and just seeing people in person, it just feel insane. But I think watching people sing back the lyrics that you write is just one of the most special things.
OD: Absolutely. And I think from an audience perspective, it’s so special to be able to hear that and we really do hear your passion in it.
GP: Aww, that’s cute.
OD: Now, you have had an amazing career so far. But I do want to throw back to the very beginning. When did you first discover your love for music?
GP: Um, I want to say I definitely knew that I loved music from a young age. I started playing piano when I was about, I would say maybe seven or eight. And then that kind of really naturally led into wanting to pick up the guitar and wanting to write little cheesy songs, I was like 11. But I definitely knew from a young age that it’s something that I wanted to do, and I kind of never thought that it would happen. And now I’m playing shows, which is really cool.
OD: So when did you know that you wanted to make this your career?
GP: Um, I kind of didn’t know, it kind of just fell into my hands, I guess, out of a song that I wrote with Hayden James. And it kind of just all happened weirdly, and I kind of didn’t realise it happened until it was happening.
OD: I love that. So what what inspires you to create?
GP: Oh, I’m definitely a storyteller. So I feel like I write a lot from personal experiences. So I definitely write about like real breakups and real stuff that I go through. So I feel like I guess just life experience.
OD: What advice would you have for young musicians right here in the regions who may be wanting to do the same thing?
GP: Honestly, just keep on writing. I guess the thing was, what you can tell with my writing is that it’s honest. And I think that there’s so many incredible writers at the moment, especially like going around on TikTok and everything. It’s just insane to see how much power people have. So I think that being the most authentic that you can and not trying to be anything else at the moment is what will make you stand out.
OD: That is a fantastic advice. What are you looking forward to the most about coming to Deni for Play on The Plains?
GP: Literally everything. So excited, me and my band. I’m really, really excited to have my band on stage, finally. We’ve never played a festival together. We’re an all girl band. And we’ve just been really, really, really looking forward to this moment. So I think having all the girls together and being able to play the festival is just a dream for all of us.
OD: I love that we’ve got some girl power coming out to the regions.
GP: Hell yeah!
OD: Well, look, thank you so much Grace for joining me. It has been an honour to speak to you today and thank you so much for wanting to come out all this way to celebrate and foster a love of music with us.
GP: Amazing, thank you so much for having me.
